Sean Casey Pierce, 49, of Baltimore, Maryland was arrested today by Maryland State Police. Pierce is charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, first-degree child abuse resulting in death, first-degree child abuse resulting in severe physical injury, second-degree child abuse, neglect of a minor and related charges in the death of his 2-month-old son, Chance Pierce.
On May 30, at about 4:45 p.m. officers from the Federalsburg Police Department responded to a camper on the 300 block of Buena Vista Avenue in Federalsburg to assist emergency medical personnel with a pediatric patient. The patient has been identified as Chance Pierce and he was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital before being transported to Nemours Children’s Hospital in Delaware where he was declared deceased.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Delaware did an autopsy of Chance Pierce and determined that he died from blunt force trauma and ruled his death a homicide.
Upon learning of Chance Pierce’s death, the Federalsburg Police Department contacted the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit to conduct the investigation which led to Pierce’s arrest.
Pierce is being held without bond at the Caroline County Detention Center.
